How rent works in Lagos Life
Rent is the pressure that keeps you earning. Here's when it's charged, what it costs, and what happens if you can't cover it.
When rent is charged
Rent is due every week on Saturday morning (community guides say around 9:00). Always keep enough set aside — this is the single most common way new players go broke. Lapo players also repay their LAPO loan on a weekly cycle on top of rent.
What it costs
- UNILAG hostel — ₦1,200/week (students)
- Mushin — ₦2,400/week
- Yaba — ₦6,000/week
- Lekki Phase 1 — ₦17,000/week
What happens if you can't pay
Miss rent and the unpaid amount turns into debt. Let it run: if you're more than two weeks behind and not already in Mushin, you get a Quit Notice and are moved back to Mushin — the cheapest housing. In short: never skip rent to buy something shiny.
